Johnson Controls Introduces York® LX Series Gas Furnaces Compact 33-inch height makes installation easy in tight spaces

NORMAN, OKLA. - (August 20, 2009) - Johnson Controls (http://www.johnsoncontrols.com), the global multi-industrial leader in energy efficiency, introduces a new line of compact 33-inch furnaces - the York® LX Series of multi-position gas furnaces.

The new furnaces, which qualify for the federal tax credit program, provide heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) dealers with yet another option for selling to homeowners.

Designed for installation in tight spaces, including basements, closets, alcoves, attics, recreation rooms and garages, the units are also ideal for commercial applications. LX Series furnaces feature Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) ratings as high as 96
percent (80 percent models are also available).

The series includes single-stage models that feature a five-speed, direct-drive, X13-style high-efficiency DC motor that increases SEER ratings in the cooling mode. Two-stage models feature a variable-speed electronically commutated motor (ECM) that circulates air for longer periods of time, equating to consistent temperatures and improved air filtering, resulting in cleaner, more comfortable air. Variable-speed models also include ClimaTrak technology, which provides homeowners with customizable airflow based on the region in which they live.

Like other units in the serie
s, these units employ an induced combustion, reliable hot surface ignition and a high heat transfer aluminized tubular heat exchanger. An insulated blower compartment and quiet inducer operation ensure low noise levels during furnace operation. Indoor air quality is assured thanks to external air filters, and a timed-on, adjustable-off blower on select models delivers maximum comfort to homeowners.

Installation is made easy thanks to the simple multi-position design, solid removable bottom panels that make conversion easy, no knockouts and a patent-pending, self-priming internal condensate trap. Contractors who service the units will appreciate ¼-turn knobs for easy door removal. Units also feature easy access to controls to connect power/control wiring, a fully supported blower assembly for improved access and blower removal, and high-level, self-diagnostics with fault code display.

End users can take advantage of a generous warranty program. 80% AFUE models include a 20-year warranty on the heat exchanger while condensing models include a lifetime warranty on the heat exchanger. When used in a commercial application, the heat exchanger warranty is 10 years on either model. In addition to the heat exchanger warranty, all models also include a 10-year limited parts warranty when the furnace is registered within 90 days of purchase. If registration does not occur in the specified time frame, the parts warranty defaults to five years.

Johnson Controls Donates Energy-Efficient Heating and Cooling System to Kansas Town Damaged by Tornado

Silo Eco-Home Is First Home Completed as Part of Greensburg, Kan.
GreenTown "The Chain of Eco-Homes" Project

GREENSBURG, KS--(Marketwire - August 11, 2009) - Two years after an EF5 tornado leveled the rural town of Greensburg, Kan., residents of the community are touring the first energy-efficient model home constructed as part of The Chain of Eco-Homes project. The first home, known as the Silo Eco-Home, is heated and cooled by an energy efficient York® Affinity™ home comfort system donated by Johnson Controls, Inc. (NYSE: JCI). Using energy efficient systems, the home will reduce energy costs by 60 to 70 percent compared to a traditionally built home of the same size.

Exterior shot of the Silo Eco-home.

The 2,000-square-foot Silo Eco-Home was inspired by the strength and durability of the grain silo that survived the devastating tornado, virtually unscathed. Built with concrete walls and roof, the home incorporates a variety of building techniques, energy efficiency features and green living products and services, including a York Affinity heat pump. The heat pump provides heating and cooling to the home, while an Affinity high-efficiency media air cleaner and an Affinity humidifier quietly deliver 24-hour filtration and humidity.

The Chain of Eco-Homes project will include 12 homes, all using sustainable products. The homes will be available both as information centers and as eco-lodging where visitors can experience green living firsthand. Greensburg GreenTown, a grassroots community-based organization, is organizing the rebuilding process with city and county officials, business owners and local residents.

The energy-efficient York Affinity heating and cooling system will account for as much as 30 percent of the 60 to 70 percent the home is expected to save in energy costs as compared to a more traditional home of the same size.

The heat pump was delivered through cfm Distributors, Inc., Kansas City, and free installation was provided by York contractor Fahnestock Plumbing, HVAC, Electric and Fireplaces, Wichita. The air-source heat pump features:

  • R-410A refrigerant that delivers environmentally-friendly performance with zero ozone depletion;
  • Outstanding efficiency ratings of up to 18 seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) and 9.4 heating seasonal performance factor (HSPF). These ratings meet the rebate and efficiency requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009;
  • Recognition for its energy efficiency by Good Housekeeping, EnergyGuide and ENERGY STAR®.

Fahnestock CEO George Fahnestock expects the York system will account for as much as 30 percent of the home's energy savings.

An energy-efficient York Affinity heat pump provides heating and cooling to the Silo Eco-Home, and an Affinity high-efficiency media air cleaner and an Affinity humidifier quietly deliver 24-hour filtration and humidity to the home as needed.

"Working on the Silo Eco-Home project, we felt a keen responsibility to bring the very best technologies and experience to the table in the hopes of moving our industry and our community toward energy independence," Fahnestock said. "The York Affinity system we installed is one of the most efficient home comfort systems on the market today, ensuring lower operating costs and longer life as well as comfort, quiet and affordability."

Daniel Wallach, executive director and founder of Greensburg GreenTown, echoed Fahnestock's sentiments: "The heating and cooling system is a huge contributor to the overall efficiency goals of the home. Because the system that was installed is such an incredibly efficient system, the efficiency of the home is going to be even better than we anticipated. It's a state-of-the-art system, meaning it's going to demonstrate to people just what's possible and how to heat and cool a 2,200-square-foot home for as little as $50 to $100 per month."

Lee Lindquist, technical projects manager at Fahnestock Plumbing, HVAC, Electric and Fireplaces, added: "As an energy rater certified by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET®), I rated the Silo Eco-Home and helped select the heating and cooling equipment that would operate most efficiently in this particular home. The York Affinity heat pump system that we installed is the most efficient system that's available, so it's definitely going to conserve energy in the home."

Johnson Controls Employees Hold Garage Sale, Auction to Benefit Make-A-Wish Foundation®

Donations exceed $5,000 to fund wish for Oklahoma child

NORMAN, OKLA. - (May 15, 2009) - The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Oklahoma will grant a wish to another Oklahoma child, thanks to the generosity of employees at the Johnson Controls-Unitary Products’ manufacturing facility in Norman, Okla. Employees at the plant recently donated more than $5,500 to the nation’s largest wish-granting charity by participating in a garage sale and silent auction at the plant.

According to Brenda Keith, marketing project manager-Unitary Products, the garage sale featured a variety of new and gently used clothing that displayed the York®, Coleman® and Luxaire® brands.

"We had wearables ranging from leather jackets to caps and visors - things that had been worn once or twice at trade shows, sales meetings, etc.," Keith said. "We asked for a minimum donation of $5 for most clothing items and $20 for the heavier outerwear."

This was the fourth consecutive year that the Norman facility hosted the garage sale. "But this was the first time we tied the garage sale to a silent auction," Keith noted. The auction encouraged employees to submit bids for merchandise over a period of five days. Bids were updated daily, giving employees on every shift the opportunity to see the current high bid.

"We were really pleased with the participation of our employees in the bidding process," said Keith. "In all, we received 239 bids. I guess it’s true what they say: One man’s trash is another man’s treasure!"

Together, the garage sale and silent auction raised enough money to sponsor the wish of an Oklahoma child living with a life-threatening medical condition. Speaking on behalf of the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Oklahoma, Erin Byers, the chapter’s director of development, said, "You did a spectacular job, and we are going to be able to grant another wish of an Oklahoma child as a result of your efforts."

Keith was thrilled with the results and the generosity employees demonstrated.

"One employee lost his $500 bid to a bid for $700," she said. "However, when the winner withdrew his bid, this same employee split the difference between the two bids and increased his bid to $600. He didn’t have to do that, but he told me he wanted to because it was for a good cause.

"I heard that over and over again," she continued. "People told me, ‘This is great because it’s for such a good cause; It’s neat that the money will be used locally; I’m really happy to support this organization; and When are we going to do it again?’"

According to Keith, several employees increased their donation when they picked up their merchandise. "In addition, we had an employee who donated a $100 American Express gift card to the Make-A-Wish organization." These acts of generosity were as important to Keith as the total amount that was donated. "We are really excited at the support shown from the entire facility for this great cause."

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. It is the largest wish-granting charity in the nation, with 66 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 171,000 heartfelt wishes since 1980.

Earlier this year, Johnson Controls, through its Luxaire brand, signed its third three-year contract with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America. This extends the partnership with the nation’s largest wish-granting organization into 2011 and commits $675,000 in contributions over three years.

Luxaire first embarked on a partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2001, agreeing to donate a portion of every sale of a Luxaire product toward its minimum annual contribution of $250,000. Since that time, Luxaire has donated more than $1.75 million to the organization, enough to grant the wishes of 250 children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.

The Luxaire network of distributors and dealers also works with Make-A-Wish chapters to organize a variety of fundraising activities, including raffles, golf outings and events affiliated with minor league baseball, Central Hockey League and Arena Football League teams. Using money raised by these and other fundraising activities, Luxaire has directly sponsored the wishes of more than 80 children in dealer markets.

Luxaire encourages homeowners to participate in the program by donating all or a portion of product rebates to their local Make-A-Wish chapter during spring and summer promotions of Luxaire brand products. A number of redesigned marketing materials will continue to support the program and raise consumer awareness.

Coleman High-Efficiency HVAC Units are Eligible for Federal Tax Credits

NORMAN, OKLA. - (May 7, 2009) - Coleman (www.colemanhvacdealer.com) provides a complete line of home comfort products that meet the high-efficiency requirements of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). This bill combines spending and tax incentives to move the economy forward by investing in infrastructure and increasing energy efficiency of residential/commercial buildings in America.

Specifically for the HVAC business, this legislation makes a number of important changes to the existing tax incentives for homeowners who make qualified improvements on high-efficiency HVAC products and equipment in their primary residences. Overall, the tax credits have been increased up to 30 percent of the installed cost of those improvements, or up to a total of $1,500 for residential HVAC products installed from Jan. 1, 2009, through Dec. 31, 2010.

The revised criteria for qualifying residential HVAC equipment, under Section 1121 of the ARRA legislation, are as follows.

  • A natural gas, propane or oil furnace rated at 95 percent AFUE or higher.
  • Any furnace equipped with an advanced main air circulating fan that uses no more than 2 percent of the total furnace energy use.
  • A central air conditioner that achieves the highest efficiency tier established by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency as in effect on Jan. 1, 2009 (which is 16 SEER or higher, 13 EER or higher rating). Previously, the criteria were 15 SEER, 12.5 EER, which is no longer valid.
  • An electric air source heat pump that achieves the highest efficiency tier established by the Consortium for Energy Efficiency as in effect on Jan. 1, 2009 (which is 15 SEER or higher, 12.5 EER or higher, 8.5 HSPF or higher rating). Previously, the criteria were 15 SEER, 13 EER, 9 HSPF as stated in the text of the legislation rather than being tied to the CEE highest efficiency tier level for electric air source heat pumps.
"All Coleman 33-inch condensing furnace models exceed the minimum 95 percent AFUE requirements for these tax credits in 2009," said Brian Michael, Coleman brand manager. "In addition, 12 different gas-fired residential furnace models achieve 97 to 98 percent AFUE, making them the most efficient in the industry. For split-system air conditioners and heat pumps, the expansion of the Coleman LX series and Echelon series provides more models at higher efficiency levels than ever before."

Michael added: "When the Federal Tax Credits are combined with Coleman's industry-leading consumer rebate program, which offers up to $1,700 cash back, 6-months same-as-cash financing options, competitive warranties, reduced energy bills, improved comfort and any applicable local utility rebates, our dealer network is able to provide an array of sustainable, high-efficiency home comfort systems that should be an easy sell."

Coleman is offering Federal Tax Credit Certificates for customers who purchase qualifying heating and cooling products for their home. The certificates are downloadable from the Coleman Web site at http://www.colemanac.com/homeowners/epa_cert/index.asp and list all Coleman residential gas furnaces, air handlers, air conditioners and heat pumps that are eligible for tax credits. Coleman will update the certificates as new residential heating and cooling products are introduced throughout 2009.

Homeowners are not required to submit the 2009 Federal Tax Credit Certificates to the IRS as part of their tax returns. Taxpayers should keep copies of invoices and receipts for documenting their actual expenditures, but only need to file Form 5695 with their tax returns to get the tax credits. Before filling for tax credits on any of the listed models, it is always recommended that homeowners/taxpayers consult with a tax professional to review the provisions of the ARRA and application in reference to Section 25C of the Internal Revenue Code.

The following Web sites offer additional information about the tax credits:

More information about Coleman products that are eligible for the tax credit, as well as a tax credit FAQ, are available at: http://www.colemanac.com/homeowners/epa_cert/index.asp.

HVAC products from Johnson Controls, Inc., marketed under the well-known Coleman brand, include highly reliable residential central air-conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces and accessories and light-commercial, packaged heating and cooling systems marketed through a network of distributors and delivered to home- and building-owners through independent Coleman heating and air conditioning dealers. Johnson Controls Expands York® LX and Latitude™ Series with Addition of 14.5 SEER Heat Pump

Mid-efficiency heat pump delivers increased energy savings year-round

NORMAN, OKLA. - (May 4, 2009) - Johnson Controls (http://www.johnsoncontrols.com), the global multi-industrial leader in energy efficiency, introduces a 14.5 SEER heat pump to its York® (www.yorkupg.com) LX and Latitude™ Series of mid-efficiency air conditioners and heat pumps.

In addition to a higher SEER, the heat pump features a heating season performance factor (HSPF) as high as 9.0 and is ENERGY STAR® qualified. A demand defrost system further reduces energy costs by cycling the unit into defrost mode only when it is needed.

"These new heat pumps promise energy savings at a time when energy conservation is top-of-mind for many homeowners," said Jeff Hurt, York brand manager. "Just as important, many of the new LX and Latitude Series heat pumps qualify for the new federal tax credit as well as most local utility rebates, delivering additional savings to homeowners. Check the unit’s technical guide to verify that a particular model qualifies."

Available in 1.5- to 5-ton capacities, the 14.5 SEER heat pump uses environmentally friendly
R-410A refrigerant and a scroll compressor protected by the simultaneous operation of high-pressure and low-pressure relief valves and a temperature sensor. Features like sound blankets and swept-wing condenser fans reduce sound to as low as 70.1 dB, and louvered side panels on the LX provide superior coil protection.

Installation time and costs are reduced by easy power and control wiring connections. Servicing the unit is easy, too, thanks to fully exposed refrigerant connections and a single panel covering the electric controls. In addition, long-life permanently lubricated motor bearings need no annual servicing.

York® products from Johnson Controls, Inc. include energy-efficient, residential central air-conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces and accessories and innovative light-commercial, packaged heating and cooling systems marketed through a national distribution network and delivered to home- and building-owners through qualified York heating and cooling dealers. For more information about York, visit: www.yorkupg.com or call 877-926-5362.

HVAC distributor will send Make-A-Wish children and their families to 12 Astros games

NORMAN, OKLA. - (April 27, 2009) - April 7 was a night of firsts at Minute Maid Park, home of the Houston Astros baseball team. The team won its first game of the 2009 season, defeating the Chicago Cubs 3-2. In addition, the Astros organization launched its year-long celebration of the club's tenth season at the ballpark, and Luxaire® (www.joinluxaire.com) distributor Solar Supply, Inc. hosted the first of at least 12 Make-A-Wish® children and their families at the baseball game.

The 2009 baseball season represents the fifth year that Solar Supply has sponsored these special children and their families at Minute Maid Park. The baseball experience includes tickets to a game, food and drink money and additional funds to cover a trip to the souvenir shop.

"The goal is to create an evening of fun that will not cost the family anything," said Quitman Moon, Solar Supply regional sales manager. "These are special children and families, and we just want them to enjoy the game and everything that comes with it. If we're lucky enough to put a smile on their face, well, then we put one on ours as well."

Solar Supply's sponsorship of Make-A-Wish children at Houston Astros games complements the partnership between the nation's largest wish-granting organization and Luxaire. Luxaire recently signed its third three-year contract with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of America. This extends the partnership into 2011 and commits $675,000 in contributions over three years.

Luxaire first embarked on a partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation in 2001, agreeing to donate a portion of every sale of a Luxaire product toward its minimum annual contribution of $250,000. Since that time, Luxaire has donated more than $1.75 million to the organization, enough to grant the wishes of more than 250 children diagnosed with life-threatening medical conditions.

"It's a way for our dealers and their employees to give back to the communities where they live and work," said Moon. "It's an incredible experience for all of us, whether it's contributing to the granting of a wish or treating a family to a baseball game. I think it's safe to say that we get as much, if not more, out of the experience as we give."

Luxaire encourages homeowners to participate in the program by donating all or a portion of product rebates to their local Make-A-Wish chapter during spring and summer promotions of Luxaire brand products. A number of redesigned marketing materials will continue to support the program and raise consumer awareness.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. It is the largest wish-granting charity in the nation, with 65 chapters in the United States and its territories. With the help of generous donors and more than 25,000 volunteers, the Make-A-Wish Foundation grants a wish every 40 minutes and has granted more than 173,000 heartfelt wishes since 1980. Luxaire® Adds New 14.5 SEER Heat Pump to LX and Climasure™ Series

Unit brings year-round energy savings to mid-efficiency product lines

NORMAN, OKLA. - (April 20, 2009) - A new 14.5 SEER heat pump is the latest addition to the Luxaire® (www.joinluxaire.com) LX and Climasure™ Series of residential air conditioners and heat pumps.

The sleek new unit improves year-round heating and cooling efficiencies, with a heating season performance factor (HSPF) as high as 9.0 and a seasonal energy efficiency ratio (SEER) of 14.5. A demand defrost system reduces energy costs by cycling the unit into defrost mode only when it is needed.

"By delivering improved energy efficiencies, the new 14.5 SEER heat pumps in the LX Series are eligible for the new federal tax credit and most local utility rebates," said Walt Jacobe, Luxaire brand manager. "However, dealers should refer to the unit’s technical guide to verify that a specific model qualifies."

The heat pump uses environmentally friendly R-410A refrigerant in a system protected from moisture, dirt and other contaminants by a filter drier. The solid core filter dryer, in combination with high-pressure and low-pressure relief valves, also extends the life of the compressor.

Coils constructed of copper tubing with aluminum fins ensure durability and long-lasting, efficient operation. Operation is also quiet, due to added sound insulation and special mounting to reduce noise. Fan blades are designed to move air quietly, and the upward airflow carries normal operating noise away from the home.

The new 14.5 SEER heat pump is available in 1.5- to 5-ton capacities. Installation of the LX Series 14.5 SEER heat pump is especially easy thanks to the unit’s compact footprint. Fully exposed refrigerant connections and a single panel covering the electrical controls make servicing the new 14.5 SEER heat pump easy as well. In addition, secured re-usable service valves on both the liquid and vapor sweat connections ensure easy evacuating and charging.

Coleman® Introduces New 14.5 SEER Heat Pump

LX and Comforteer™ Series add new mid-efficiency heat pump to product offerings

NORMAN, OKLA. - (April 9, 2009) - Coleman® (www.colemanhvacdealer.com) introduces a new 14.5 SEER heat pump that rounds out the Coleman LX and Comforteer™ Series of mid-efficiency air conditioners and heat pumps.

Available in 1.5- to 5-ton capacities, the new heat pump features a heating season performance factor (HSPF) up to 9.0 and is ENERGY STAR® qualified.

"The efficiency features of the new 14.5 SEER LX Series heat pump qualify it for most local utility rebates as well as the new federal tax credit," said Brian Michael, Coleman brand manager. "To be certain a particular heat pump in the LX Series qualifies, dealers should check the technical guide for the unit."

The use of R-410A refrigerant minimizes the impact of the new 14.5 SEER heat pump on the environment, as do the unit’s upflow air flow pattern, sound-isolated motor, rigid top panel and cushioned compressor mounts that work together to dampen vibrations and ensure quiet operation.

The 14.5 SEER heat pump includes an accumulator that regulates the differing refrigeration needs of heating and cooling cycles, and a reversing valve regulates the change from cooling to heating. Coated aluminum fins with copper tube coils provide durability and efficient operation, while high-pressure and low-pressure relief valves and a solid core filter drier extend the life of the compressor.

The compact footprint of the LX Series 14.5 SEER heat pump makes it a perfect fit for any installation. Fully exposed refrigerant connections and a single panel covering the electrical controls make for easy servicing of the unit. Secured re-usable service valves are provided on both the liquid and vapor sweat connections for ease of evacuating and charging.

Coleman’s® New Branding Campaign Capitalizes on Brand Heritage and Recognition

Campaign features trade ads, online banners and new trade destination Web site

NORMAN, OKLA. - (March 25, 2009) - Coleman® announces the launch of a new branding campaign, "The Brand That Opens More Doors." The campaign features several key mediums that complement each other and provide consistent messages, including trade ads, online banners and a new trade destination Web site: www.colemanhvacdealer.com.

"The new branding campaign capitalizes on Coleman's respected brand heritage and recognition," said Coleman Brand Manager Brian Michael. "The campaign also incorporates messages that show how our innovative, industry-leading products and premier marketing programs can assist Coleman dealers."

The first ad in the trade series, entitled "The Brand Everyone Knows," underscores the ability of Coleman's brand recognition, heritage and preference to open more doors for HVAC dealers. The second ad, "The Brand That Fits," expands upon product-focused trade materials developed last year around the compact footprint of Coleman MicroChannel products and the reduced height of Coleman 33-inch furnaces.

"This second ad takes that concept a little further by educating potential dealers that our products are a good 'fit' in more ways than one," explained Michael. "Coleman provides the right product size as well as the right product mix to fit customers' ideas of comfort, budget and sustainability, giving dealers additional options in the sales dialogue.

"And with a reduced size on most equipment models, dealers may fit all the products they need for installation and service in a single load, saving time, money and the environment."

According to Michael, the Web site supports the branding campaign and further entices potential dealers to consider joining the Coleman team.
"The intent of the site is to educate potential dealers about the power of Coleman's brand recognition, our suite of innovative, industry-leading products and our premier marketing and business tools."

The new site features improved navigation, more product detail, links to Coleman's history, featured products and the Coleman Home Comfort Center, an interactive program that shows customers how equipment upgrades can improve comfort and lower operating costs.

An updated dealer support section presents information about the Liberties™ program, including descriptions of the Retail Credit, Dealer Floor Planning, Commercial Leasing and Co-marketing programs as well as the new Marketing Action Center (MAC).

"The Marketing Action Center is an extensive online collection of marketing materials spanning a range of topics designed for maximum impact and visibility," Michael explained. "Dealers will find everything from customizable ads, brochures and direct mail to door hangers, images and public relations templates."

The site also educates potential dealers about Coleman's brand power and its best-in-class training. In addition, a new sustainability page describes the environmentally friendly selling features of Coleman products.

"Once potential dealers are educated, we provide them with an opportunity to find their nearest Coleman distributor by using the distributor locator tool," Michael continued. "They can also fill out an online form to contact us for additional information about our products, business tools, training and how to become a Coleman dealer."

To learn more about the products and support services that open doors for Coleman dealers, visit the new dealer Web site at www.colemanhvacdealer.com.

Luxaire's New Acclimate UVC Germicidal Light

Luxaire's New Acclimate UVC Germicidal Light Brings Bright Ideas to Indoor Air Quality
Product Radiates Ultraviolet Light to Kill Microbial Organisms in Home Comfort Systems

NORMAN, OKLA. - (February 11, 2009) - The new Acclimate™ UVC (ultraviolet "C" frequency) germicidal light from Luxaire (www.joinluxaire.com/mawpr) brings bright ideas to indoor air quality as it radiates the microbial organisms that accumulate and grow on wet surfaces of heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems.

These organisms (mold and fungus) are responsible for indoor air quality degradation, including the foul odor, otherwise known as "Dirty Sock" syndrome. The organisms also restrict airflow through the coil and limit heat transfer capability, which decreases performance and increases the operating costs of the equipment.

The new Acclimate UVC germicidal light is installed inside an HVAC system and irradiates the areas inhabited by the offending organisms, making it impossible for them to survive. As the organisms disappear, so do the odors and indoor air quality complaints.

To eliminate contaminants in HVAC systems, a UVC light must be able to provide maximum dosage of UVC energy at 45 to 55 degrees Fahrenheit in a rapidly moving airstream. Although many commercial lamps are designed for optimal performance at room temperature, the Luxaire Acclimate lamp uses a blend of inert gases in the bulb and a specialized power supply that maintains the optimal plasma temperature inside the bulb, even in a low temperature, moving airstream, making it the perfect application for an HVAC system.

By providing a lamp that with the highest output at low temperatures, the Luxaire Acclimate UVC germicidal light will kill target organisms in the shortest period of time. And, the mixture of gases creates a bulb which does not produce UV with wavelengths of less than 200 nanometers, meaning the new light does not contribute to ozone production.

The product's lamp assembly must be changed at or before 9,000 hours (approximately 12 months) of operation to maintain design output and to ensure germicidal effectiveness. An indicator light on the front panel of the power supply housing changes from blue to yellow to remind the consumer to contact the installing contractor to change the lamp. When the indicator light turns red, the lamp assembly must be replaced to maintain the highest level of performance.

The Acclimate UVC germicidal light is available in single and dual 115 and 208/230 volt models. To learn more, please contact your local Luxaire distributor.

NORMAN, OKLA. - (February 5, 2009) - Luxaire® Heating and Air Conditioning (www.luxairebelievesinme.com) recently renewed its commitment to helping children with life-threatening medical conditions by signing its third three-year contract with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of America®. This extends the partnership with the nation’s largest wish-granting organization into 2011 and commits $675,000 in contributions over three years.

Luxaire first embarked on a partnership with Make-A-Wish in 2001, agreeing to donate a portion of every sale of a Luxaire product toward its minimum annual contribution of $250,000. Using money raised by these and other fundraising activities, Luxaire has directly sponsored the wishes of more than 80 children in dealer markets.

"We are delighted to continue our partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation," said Luxaire Brand Manager Walt Jacobe. "It’s been a real joy to promote the partnership because, in doing so, we know we are directly impacting the lives of children in the communities where we live and work. At the same time, we’re inviting our customers to participate by purchasing Luxaire equipment, and we’re able to offer our dealers and distributors a program that truly differentiates them in the market."

Luxaire encourages homeowners to participate in the program by donating all or a portion of product rebates to their local Make-A-Wish® chapter during spring and summer promotions of Luxaire brand products. A number of redesigned marketing materials will continue to support the program and raise consumer awareness.

Luxaire® Liberties™ Plus Dealers Can Access Online Training Materials
Through PCs and Mobile Devices
ProficienTECH training programs now available online

NORMAN, OKLA. - (January 23, 2009) - Luxaire® Liberties™ Plus dealers can now use PCs and mobile devices to access Luxaire (www.luxairebelievesinme.com) training programs and take advantage of self-paced educational opportunities.

Effective Jan. 1, 2009, Luxaire moved its entire library of ProficienTECH training materials online.

"Now, dealers can access all of the training video previously released as DVDs and the accompanying software for Windows by visiting the Media Center on the Johnson Controls Unitary Products Technical Training site," explained Scott Nelmark, training services manager for Johnson Controls. "And for dealers who use mobile devices, iDevice Central will provide the ProficienTECH library in a mobile-friendly format designed for the iPod Classic, Touch and Nano. In effect, technicians can carry an entire library of video training in their pockets."

ProficienTECH online training is a self-paced learning system accessible to registered Luxaire Liberties dealers 24/7, enabling them to learn at their own pace and on their own schedule. Each session in the interactive tool is narrated with full audio and user-controlled features. Dealers are able to check their skills as they advance through a course and are required to take an online exam at the conclusion of each program.

Past training programs have offered an array of materials that provide important information about Luxaire air conditioners, 40-inch modulating gas furnaces, heat pumps, 33-inch single-stage gas furnaces and 33-inch modulating gas furnaces.

The Liberties Program provides a host of other cost-effective services designed to help participating dealers manage their businesses. Features of the program include leasing options, financial programs, professionally designed sales and marketing tools, training programs and employee benefits.

Luxaire® products from Johnson Controls, Inc., include high-performance residential central air-conditioners, heat pumps, furnaces and accessories and light-commercial, packaged heating and cooling systems marketed through a network of distributors and delivered to home- and building-owners through independent Luxaire heating and air conditioning dealers.
